If you’re looking for a way to make selling feel a lot lighter and significantly more fun, we’ve got your back.

When it comes to selling, the pressure to close the deal sucks the fun right out of the equation.

But what if selling could simply be all about connecting with customers?

Connecting with customers sounds like a heck of a lot more fun than pushing, pressing, or feeling like a failure when we don’t make a sale.

There’s a shift available to us here.

The first step is to change how we view our interactions with possible clients.

It’s totally possible to ditch our outdated beliefs about how hard selling is and instead focus on actually enjoying the conversation!

We’re offering you 5 simple yet powerful shifts to go from a “closing” mentality to embracing the power of connection with your customers.

This blog post (and accompanying video) are part of one big in-depth series all about our Empowering Enrollment Experience. This is Part 7. ( Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6)

In the old way of doing things, you were taught that to be great at sales you need to have a “closer’s mindset”.

Trying to get to a “yes” as fast as possible so you can move on to the next is a telltale sign you’ve fallen into the trap of too much attachment to the close.

With this mentality, it’s easy to view each interaction that doesn’t result in a sale as a total waste of time.

But if you ask us, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

The truth is that if you treat each interaction as transactional, if you cut ties with each person who doesn’t sign up this instant, you are very likely missing out on future clients!

It’s natural to feel disappointed when a lengthy back and forth conversation doesn’t end in an instant enrollment.

But what if you challenged yourself to create an interaction so positive, your potential clients walk away feeling better than before?

Perhaps that exchange is so impactful, they continue to keep you and your program in their mind for later even though it has to be a “no” right now.

What if your leads got the same time, attention and care from you and your team whether or not they enroll today?

How would that make them feel, and what might that do for your brand reputation?

Imagine the ripple effects that kind of experience will have down the road!

And guess what? There’s no big secret to connecting with your customers in a meaningful way.

Instead, you just need to focus on getting curious and caring about getting to know them.

If that sounds dead simple, that’s because it really is!

In order to be truly excited about chatting with our clients, we need to set the end result aside and stay “in the moment” with our conversations.

So in the spirit of staying curious and focusing on the connection with our clients over the close, here are 5 affirmations you can try on and watch your mindset shift instantly.

1️⃣ “I am genuinely excited to get to know someone whether they enroll or not.”

When you enter a new conversation, let’s stop the thoughts that start spinning toward the sale.

Thoughts like, “I wonder if they’re going to say yes.”

Or, “OMG, could this be money in the bank?!”

Those thoughts are natural to have, but the truth is that they detract from our main focus: learning about the person on the other end of the DM!

Just think about it: what kind of vibes does it give off if you walk into a first date with a person who is clearly evaluating whether they can spend the rest of their life with you?

You’d want them to slow things down.

You’d hope to just get to know each other a little bit before jumping ahead!

Our prospects feel the exact same way about us when an exploratory conversation begins.

Imagine how much you can stand out if you prioritize them as people in a world that just wants to sell them stuff!
